Standard

As part of the cultural studies at VEDC Malang, the students have learned to perform a traditional East Javanese dance, one for the boys and one for the girls. For 8 weeks, every Wednesday for  4 hours, with the help of Pak Eko, our teacher, we tried our best to master the specific movement of the body and body parts. Not an easy task!

Here we are waiting for our dance instructor on our first day !

First time we heard the music, an instrumental rhythm quite new to us:

Here are the girls trying to gracefully synchronize and manage to┬ádo the specific head movement – as this dance is all about the accessories in our hair that need to move┬áduring the┬ádance:)┬á┬áand hand gestures as the teacher’s instructions:

And here are the boys, a bigger challenge for them than for the girls, they are not really the┬ádancing type…

Two make-up artists came early that┬áday to get us ready! A┬ádifficult task, given the complicated make-up and numerous clothing pieces and accessories, but they were professionals, and everything was┬ádone on time čÖé
